Traffic Ticket Lawyer – Mattawa, ON

Mattawa is located in northeastern Ontario. The population of Mattawa is just under two thousand people. Mattawa is located where the Ottawa and Mattawa rivers meet. Due to this, Mattawa itself means, “Meeting of the Waters” in Ojibwa.

The Provincial Offences Courthouse is located at 160 Water Street in Mattawa and is a satellite court for the North Bay Provincial Offences Court. North Bay is located 45 minutes east of Mattawa. Provincial Offence charges in Mattawa are laid by the Ontario Provincial Police. Most Provincial Offences laid in Mattawa come from traffic stops. Traffic tickets issued during traffic stops are usually issued under the Highway Traffic Act or the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act. It is important to know that at a traffic stop, you have not been found guilty of anything.

For example, if you were pulled over and given a ticket for Speeding, the officer is alleging you broke the law under the Highway Traffic Act section 128. Section 128 states that it is against the law to travel at a rate of speed greater than the posted speed limit. The ticket itself will not list all the applicable penalties you are facing. Penalties such as license suspensions or demerit points will not appear on the ticket. Therefore, it is crucial to find out what penalties are associated with your ticket before you plead guilty. Paying the ticket is considered a guilty plea.

It is not usually a good idea to rely on what the officer tells you about the consequences of your traffic ticket during the traffic stop. They often don’t provide accurate information as there are many variables involved. If you have questions about the ramifications of the charge you are facing, please reach out to our office at 226-647-6869 or email us at help@otdlegal.ca. Our team of experienced paralegals licensed by The Law Society of Ontario are happy to assist you!
