Traffic Ticket Lawyers and Paralegals in Renfrew, ON

Renfrew is located approximately 1 hour west of Ottawa on the Bonnechere River in Renfrew County. Renfrew has a population of approximately 8,000 people and is most famous for its role in the formation of the National Hockey League.

Due to its location on the river, Renfrew is a popular destination for sport and recreational fishing. Many fishermen/women travel with their boat to fish the river for Pike, Bass, Trout, and more. Travelling with a trailer/boat combination requires skill and practice. A regular G class license holder can tow a boat and trailer with a weight of up to 4,600 kg. Since there is no supplementary training required, inexperience and lack of knowledge often result in charges being laid under the Highway Traffic Act. From having an overweight load to accidents involving the towing vehicle or towed vessel, there are a range of offences unique to towing a boat.

Once you conquer the skillset required to get your boat in the water, there are various rules and laws that apply in the water itself. The operator of the boat is responsible for obtaining and maintaining a valid boating license. If the Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) or Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are on the river, you can expect to be required to provide proof of a valid boating license, as well as trailer registration, fishing license, all the safety gear in the boat, and an inspection of the fish onboard. Charges on a boat can range from a simple monetary fine for failing to surrender a document to a criminal charge for operating the vessel while impaired. In addition, you must know what species of fish you are allowed to fish for and when. A lack of knowledge in this area could result in charges under the Fisheries Act.
